ILAS2000 Sample Pairer Robot
ILAS2000 Sample Pairer Robot
The Motion Design ILAS2000 Pairer is a SCARA robotic machine for pairing and combining AM and PM herd test milk samples. Designed for high-throughput dairy laboratories, it matches corresponding samples, shakes them, then combines them to produce a single proportional sample ready for analysis.
The ILAS2000 improves consistency, reduces manual handling, and supports more efficient laboratory workflows.
Originally developed in partnership with LIC in New Zealand, this automated system was created to solve a complex sample pairing process that off-the-shelf automation could not handle.
Engineered by our team (formerly Intellitech, now part of Motion Design), the system underwent extensive analysis and optimisation to deliver the performance, accuracy and reliability required for high-throughput herd testing laboratories.

System Overview
In herd testing laboratories, accurate pairing and proper mixing are essential for reliable results. The ILAS2000 ensures both samples are treated identically, removing inconsistencies caused by manual handling.
Controlled shaking fully homogenises each sample before combining, producing a representative final sample every time.
The Motion Design ILAS2000 automates the complete pairing process by taking two corresponding milk samples - morning and afternoon - mixing them, and proportionally combining them into a single output sample ready for analysis.
The system accepts four input trays at once, enabling laboratories to process large volumes efficiently while maintaining consistent handling from start to finish.

Key Benefits
- Eliminates manual sample pairing and combining
- Improves repeatability and consistency of results
- Handles high sample volumes with ease
- Reduces operator fatigue and repetitive strain risk
- Maintains reliable sample traceability throughout the process
